PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Lyceum will be a “smartly sustainable” building, designed to support Amherst College’s commitment to carbon neutrality by 2030 and showcase low carbon construction. VaproShield’s SlopeShield Plus SA airtight vapor permeable roofing underlayment was the perfect choice to protect the CLT roof from moisture damage during and after construction. SlopeShield Plus SA offers a high drying capacity helping to prohibit the formation of mold and mildew which can cause rot, corrosion and eventually lead to structural damage. In addition, SlopeShield Plus SA is highly airtight contributing to the project’s aggressive energy saving goals.

During construction, WallShield IT (green) was temporarily installed on the CLT beams and columns, offering best-in-class moisture protection and is easily removed during the next phase of the construction. When coupled with efficient mechanical systems, Lyceum will demonstrate how buildings can dramatically reduce their impact from construction, and through their operational life. Indoor air quality, operable windows, a daylighting strategy, and views to the surrounding environment are additional considerations to improve occupant wellbeing.
