PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Starbucks' new 20,000 square foot, open joint rain screen design facility is located in the Lakewood Towne Center originally built in 1958 as the Villa Plaza Shopping Center.
Lakewood Towne Center is undergoing a major renovation and will emerge as an 800,000 square foot, open-air shopping center with 55 to 60 stores.
Starbucks is committed to using VaproShield products exclusively when developing their open joint rain screen stores. The cladding is Parklex Prefinished Wood Panel Products by Finland Color Plywood Corporation, which specifies the use of VaproShield products behind their cladding systems.
CONTRIBUTING TO LEED
The products used in constructing a Starbucks facility is important to the company. Their Environmental Strategies outline their “Sustainable Store Design” criteria.
For a number of years, Starbucks has been working with the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) to develop LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) standards along with a scoring mechanism specifically for the retail sector.
VaproShield products contribute to achieving LEED points in both the Energy & Atmosphere and the Indoor Environmental Quality categories. Additionally, the innovative design of the material may also be submitted for inclusion in the Innovation & Design Process category for open joint rain screen design.
